Amazing World Class Skatepark | Memorial Skatepark In Colorado Springs
Memorial Skatepark in Colorado Springs is one of those must see skateparks for anyone who loves the sport! Before we started travelling around the country and visiting the different skateparks along the way, I had no idea there were so many incredible facilities. And this one is no exception. The sheer size of this 40,000+ sq. ft. skatepark mixed with a downhill flow from every direction makes this a really fun place for some skatepark cement surfing with a longboard. Unique features are found in every corner of this skatepark which makes Memorial Skatepark a very memorable one.
The city of Colorado Springs wanted to create a world class skatepark that could be enjoyed by all athletes; no mater what type of wheels they rode, their skill level, or their riding style. Credit for the construction of this awesome skatepark goes to Team Pain Skateparks who finished construction in November of 2008.
First Impressions: Memorial Skatepark in Colorado Springs
As you turn into the parking lot of Memorial Skatepark you can’t help but notice the GINORMOUS half pipe! This is like the huge half pipes that you see in the X-Games and not something you find at most skateparks. It is really impressive. And intimidating. And that’s only the tip of the iceberg with what this skatepark has to offer! This large half pipe is actually two half pipes separated by a platform with stairs that take you inside and up to the top platform. I think the only time I have seen a half pipe of this magnitude is at the Kona Skatepark in Jacksonville, Florida.

Riders Thoughts: Memorial Skatepark in Colorado Springs
Put simply, the Memorial Skatepark in Colorado Springs is awesome.
The “hole in the wall” catches your eye as soon as you walk into the skatepark. Not only does it look cool, it also has number of characteristics that make it a fun and usable feature from every side. The rounded transition through the hole makes the obstacle both fun and easy that kids really get a kick out of.
Street Section of Memorial Skatepark
The 20,000 sq ft street side of the skatepark is loaded with street obstacles like boxes, rails, platforms, pyramids, metal and cement ledges, banked walls, plus curbs, and multiple surfaces. Sometimes my riding style can be limited in the street section of a skatepark. But the layout of this skatepark combined with the flow and transitions make it very easy to go fast here. And that makes is a very fun street section even on a longboard.
Memorial Skatepark has a bunch of ramps and quarter pipes that are positioned in a variety of angles and steepness. That makes for a great place to experience all sorts of transitions and difficulty levels in a single run. Skaters will be able to find some stairs here too, but can choose to go over them if desired.
This is a really good skatepark so, as you can imagine, a lot of people like to skate here. That means you will most likely have to play in some traffic. That’s part of the experience! So make sure to be aware of others and don’t be afraid to communicate with a stranger if it can prevent an accident. We’re all just trying to have fun!
The builders engineered a skatepark with many different levels. This is really great because they were able to create a huge skatepark that can feel like you’re going downhill from all over the park and in many different directions. This downhill feel is great to build speed and carve the large banked turns all over the park.
Vert Side of Memorial Skatepark
The vert and bowl side of Memorial Skatepark sits up a little bit higher and overlooks the flowy street plaza. There are some cool curb features that incorporate large rocks and remind you that you are indeed just outside the Rocky Mountains.
The designers/builders took full advantage of space in this park including skate features and obstacles in every corner, even on the back of other obstacles. This fun pocket is a surf skaters dream and is a good example of taking full advantage of space. This pocket reminds of of the small pocket in the street side of the Frisco Colorado Skatepark.
There are three separate bowls on this side of the skatepark and they are all pretty different. The first bowl is a pretty advanced bowl with steep vert walls and full cement coping. The bowl has a change in depth and a unique shape that I can’t even figure out how to describe.

Next is the second and largest bowl found way in the back. This bowl is one of my favorite features of the Memorial Skatepark. This bowl has a great flow and if full of round transitions that are great for my cement surfing style of riding a longboard in a skatepark. The rounded humps and banked turns of this bowl are positioned great for building and pumping up speed. The depth changes make this bowl fun and the variety of banked turns give riders some creative freedom in creating new lines.
The third and final bowl of the Memorial Skatepark in Colorado Springs is a tribute to the classic back yard pool. The bowl is fully lined in tiles and cement coping and the builders included the advanced pool features; the death box and a corner stair set. This pool was a little too advanced for my current skill set, but I’d love to see someone rock it!
I’m happy to share my experience at the Memorial Skatepark with you. I hope we have been able to inspire you to get out here and skate! This is a great skatepark for everyone because there is so much to offer here and so much to learn.
