Best Pump Tracks in Southern California for Skating
Pump Tracks in Southern California are sparking interest and becoming more and more popular everyday. And there are more being built all the time! Many people ride bikes on these tracks, but skating pump tracks in southern California provides more of a surf inspired ride. In this article we are going to talk a little about what pump tracks are. And we’ll introduce you to the pump tracks in Southern California that we have visited so far. I have experienced riding my longboard on each of these pump tracks, and I would like to share a little bit about each track and its features with you.
What is a Pump Track?
A pump track is a paved trail system that is shaped into a looping circuit created with back-to-back berms, humps and banked turns. These features allow riders to build and maintain speed by actively pumping themselves and their equipment. Pump tracks can be constructed in a variety of ways with a variety of materials. There are dirt, wood, cement, and asphalt pump tracks but usually people only skate on the cement and asphalt tracks.
In this picture you can see me riding my longboard on the smooth asphalt pump track, but you can also see the larger dirt and wood pump track in the background.

Who Can Use a Pump Track?
Anyone with wheels can use a pump track! Well… we have been to tons of pump tracks all over the country, and every singe one has rules AGAINST riding any sort of motorized vehicles. Which makes sense because pump tracks are engineered to work with coasting vehicles. You don’t need any motors to build and maintain high speeds.
In the past few years, smooth paved pump tracks have been becoming very popular because they are much better suited for skateboarding and other types of vehicles with smaller wheels. I personally LOVE riding my longboard on these pump tracks! It gives a very flowy feeling to the rider and feels like you’re surfing on the cement!
Traditionally, pump tracks were made of dirt which limited riders to bikes because the big wheels do well in the dirt.

At your local pump track you will probably see lots of bikes. But there may also be skateboarders, longboarders, roller skate/bladers, and even some scooters. All of these options will work great on a pump track!
You will also find a variety of different people using the pump track. There are usually a lot of intermediate riders, but you will also see some advanced riders flying around the track, or even jumping over some of the gaps! Often times there are also little kids on striders bikes or beginners using the track. As a rider, it’s your responsibility to be aware of the athletes on the track to avoid crashing and accidents. Be conscious of who is where and what direction they are going in and look ahead often for safe routes.
My favorite vehicle to use on a pump track is obviously a longboard, especially a responsive longboard that is constructed to be flexy. We are proud to offer, what I think, is the perfect board for longboarding in a pump track at our online Lost Coast Longboarding Shop.
I find that the flex helps add some power to your pumps. If you’re interested in learning more about longboarding a pump track, we’ve got the article for you.
Southern California Pump Tracks
We visit Southern California every once in a while, and each time there seems to be a new pump track to visit! Here’s a list of pump tracks in Southern California that we’ve visited:
- Inglewood Pump Track
- Temecula Pump Track
- Menifee Pump Track
- Deleo Pump Track in Corona
- Lake Elsinore Pump Track
- Needles Pump Track
- Carmel Valley Pump Track
Inglewood Pump Track
The Inglewood Pump Track in Southern California is Los Angeles’ first pump track. It is located in Inglewood’s Edward Vincent Jr. Park. There are actually two separate pump tracks here as well as the Nella Skatepark! One is a bit smaller and the other is a big track. These pump tracks are pretty new and becoming very popular so you might spend a good amount of time playing in traffic, but LA locals are pretty used to this. lol
We had a really fun time while longboarding the Inglewood pump track, and we really enjoyed the vibe here. Everyone was nice, talkative, positive, and it felt like a good skate community. This track is big so we took a lot of pictures and videos to share our full experience at the Inglewood Pump Track.
Temecula Pump Track
Next on the list is the Temecula Pump Track. This is one of my favorite Southern California Pump Tracks to longboard because it is huge and has a great layout. This pump track has a great flow that can go in multiple directions and it has a good variety of banked turns.
Another great aspect of the Temecula Pump Track is the fact that it is literally right next to the Temecula Skatepark! Having these two great skate spots right next to each other made it easy for us to spend all day at the Temecula Pump Track
Menifee Pump Track
This Southern California Pump Track is by far the most advanced of the bunch. The Menifee Pump Track is very fast and very steep, with a few very advanced transitions.
The advanced features here force all riders to become airborne in order to successfully maneuver over two transitions. These features are not easy to overcome on a longboard, so I would not recommend this pump track to beginners. But if you would like to see it done, we do have a video in our full Menifee Pump Track article. This pump track also has a number of dirt and wood pump track features for BMX and mountain bikes.
Deleo Pump Track in Corona
The Deleo Pump Track in Corona is another prime example of an awesome pump track Southern California. I really enjoy longboarding this pump track because it is fast, fun, and smooth! Not to mention the breathtaking mountain scenery. We encountered few people here so we often had the pump track all to ourselves.
The Pump Track in Corona, CA also has a huge dirt/wood pump track with jumps for BMX and mountain bikes. We had a lot of fun here and were able to take a bunch of cool pictures and make a fun video! You can see more pictures and info of this pump track in southern California here at our Corona Pump Track article.
Lake Elsinore Pump Track
The Lake Elsinore Pump Track is very unique and not quite like all the others. This Southern California pump track has a lot of character and feels a bit more like a “bump track” than a pump track. The track makes for a pretty memorable longboarding experience that forces riders to be creative with their lines.
The unpredictable layout and unique features of the Lake Elsinore Pump Track make this one worth a visit. Plus, this one also has a skatepark right next to it! See it all at The Skate Spot in Serenity Park.
Needles Pump Track
The Needles Pump Track is a very unique head-to-head race style pump track. This is the only Southern California Pump Track with a race layout, which can add a fun competitive aspect to the sport. Set to open Summer 2024, this is going to be a hot spot for racing!
The Pump Track in Needles is different than most pump tracks because it is mostly straightaways. This layout gives riders an opportunity to push as fast as they can! Caution: this pump track is a work out! This Desert Pump Track in Needles is a new addition and upgrade to the the current Skatepark in Needles.
Carmel Valley Pump Track
The Carmel Valley Pump Track in San Diego is probably the oldest Southern California Pump Track out of the bunch. This pump track has a layout with two different sides, an easy side and an easier side. This is the pump track I recommend for beginners, kids, and those looking to learn the basics of how pump tracks work.
The Carmel Valley Pump Track is a chill spot to relax and casually cruise around the super smooth track. You can expect to skate amongst a crowd here, but that’s just part of the vibe. See our experience at the Carmel Valley Pump Track for more info and pictures.
