The Big Mine Skatepark in Crested Butte is a fun, medium sized skatepark with some large vert and street obstacles. It is located in the middle of the tiny town of Crested Butte. And Crested Butte is a small, mountain town in the middle of the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. The town is a very outdoorsy town full of outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy the area in every season. Many skiers and snowboarders live in Crested Butte, so it makes sense that they would have a good skatepark for their off season board sports. The skatepark has good flow as well as features and obstacles for riders of any style.

Woah, this is a great skatepark for such a small town.

The Big Mine Skatepark in Crested Butte is located near the city’s Big Mine Ice Arena. There are bathrooms and trash cans around the park as well as a pizza place located conveniently right across the street. The skatepark is open from 8am – Dusk and there are no lights for night riding.

The Big Mine Skatepark in Crested Butte is a fun cement skatepark that makes a great option for longboarding in a skatepark. The Big Mine skatepark is medium sized compared to other skateparks. But the space in this skatepark is very well utilized by a variety of obstacles that accommodate both street and vert styles of skating.
The large bowl at the Crested Butte Skatepark is ideal for longboarding in a skatepark. The reasons for this being such a good bowl for longboarding in a skatepark are the size and transitions inside the bowl. This large bowl features two separate smooth roll in areas that are located on opposite sides of the bowl. This is great because it provides riders with options on where to enter the bowl and at which direction to enter.
The large bowl has two horse shoe shaped pockets that share a spine and metal coping. These parts of the bowl are great for someone looking for a half pipe area to shred. This main large bowl features smooth roll ins, metal coping, as well as pool style brick coping on the deep end.

Once inside the bowl, the smooth transitions and banked turns are positioned very well. They give riders the ability to pump with their momentum and build speed throughout the entire bowl. The bowl also provides riders with a variety of depths, allowing riders to cruise through the shallower side or get a lot of height on the very high vert wall.
The Big Mine Skatepark also features a smaller oval shaped shallow bowl. This bowl has a taller and a shorter side, completely lined in coping. This bowl is set off to the side of the larger bowl and street areas.
The street section of the Crested Butte Skatepark has a flat surface with angled flat ramps facing each other and a pyramid box in the middle. This pyramid box obstacle features a great rail that follows the contour of the pyramid box. Along the perimeter of the street section riders can find a variety of cement boxes, some with and some without metal ledges.
Any skateboarder will enjoy spending some time at the Big Mine Skatepark in Crested Butte. From a fun simple street section to a large bowl with plenty of vert, banked turns and smooth transitions riders of any skill level will find a good time here. The variety of transition types and sizes is fun for experienced riders and will give new riders opportunities to strengthen their skills.
