Riders Thoughts:
When we first arrived to Anthem Community Park we were confused on where the Broomfield Pump Track was. The pump track is not visible from the parking lot or even from the road. From the parking area the pump track is literally across the creek and on top of the hill. The creek is about 6 feet wide and there is no bridge to cross it. So to get to the pump track you’ll want to take the sidewalk towards the road and follow the dirt path to cross over the creek near the road. Once on the other side of the creek you’re on gravel so you have to walk to the hill.
Once you’re up the hill, the Broomfield Pump Track is in full view. And it looks awesome – like super smooth, fun race track for longboards!
About the Track
The direction of flow in the pump track is marked clearly by arrows on the ground. This helps direct traffic throughout the flowing lines of pump track. The pump track is black with traffic indications in both red and white paint.
Surrounding the pump track is a nice green grass that is actually an artificial turf. Using turf was a great choice because it gives a very soft landing to any one who might fall or crash.
About the Experience
When you first roll into the Broomfield Pump Track, the humps are short and the transitions are smooth. From this initial roll in, riders begin to understand the feeling of the pumping movement. A rider can use their body weight and momentum to build up speed around the track. When a rider is going fast their momentum can carry them higher on the banked turns, causing a rider to get horizontal.
When cruising the pump track on the right longboard, a rider can build up a lot of speed and go very fast. Click here to see the ideal longboard for a pump track! When navigating the track at a high speed the sharp banked turns go from right turn to left turn very rapidly which gives a rider the feeling of surfing, switching from wave to wave.
Being high on a banked turn can be scary, but the engineering behind this pump track allows riders to control their speed and take turns at an angle and speed that they are comfortable with. Many of the sharp and steep turns have a gradual route up and around the steep area. This is great for people just learning, and it allows a safe pull off area if needed.
The Broomfield Pump Track allows for constant motion and the traffic flows continuously, so it is important to be aware of who is behind you on the track and where you’re going. Traffic jams and crashes can occur if riders are unaware of their surroundings.
Shred it Later – Pin it Now!
The Broomfield Pump Track provides a long and fun path to riders on longboards, skateboards, bikes, and scooters. The pump track has humps and dips in a variety of sizes and steepness. There are also many banked turns in a variety of sizes, both frontside and backside. The mix of obstacles gives riders a range of difficulty levels from slow and steady to fast and intense.
The back side of the pump track has an attached but kind of separated smaller pump track loop for beginners. This smaller loop is great for learning on. The humps in this area are small, with a small banked turn on either side. This is a good spot to learn, but the arrows indicate only one direction so you’d have to go against traffic to learn how to turn the other direction.
It’s easy to spend all day at the Broomfield Pump Track! The pump track itself is very smooth and all of the transitions are smooth as well. The flow is great and it’s a fun track to follow. The variety of turns and levels of steepness provide a thrilling experience to riders of any age.
