Buena Vista Skatepark | Compact and Full of Fun Features

We visited a ton of really great skateparks on our travels through Colorado and the Buena Vista Skatepark is no exception. This small skatepark was going to be a quick stop, but the park exceeded our expectations and turned into a few hours of skateparkin’. This is a fun and compact skatepark with a ton of flow that was great for cement surfing with the longboard!

Riders Thoughts: Buena Vista Skatepark

The Buena Vista Skatepark is a unique skatepark that proves to be a great place for street skaters and a fun place for vert skaters. I had a lot of fun longboarding here and found that the features in the park are not huge nor are they very advanced. But instead the park is loaded with a bunch of very usable medium sized features.

At first I didn’t think this park would have much of a flow. But I quickly learned all sorts of fun lines and found it easy to hit every corner of the skatepark in one go! The layout of the Buena Vista Skatepark is pretty compact but all of the space is very well utilized and the obstacles all work well together. Little details like banked turns in the corners and smooth transitions really add to the flow of the park.

About 1/4 of the bowl is open to the street area of the park which makes the bowl easily accessible for riders of all ages and skill levels and makes for an easy transition from the vert area to the street area. The bowl has walls of different heights but smooth transitions all around. Plus there’s a rounded hump that really aids riders in building and maintaining speed during a run. I found it easy to go too fast here!

The street section of the Buena Vista Skatepark has a great variety of different obstacles like boxes, metal and concrete ledges, stairs, flat rails, rounded rails, quarter pipes and a number of other funky features. The large box in the middle of this area almost makes an island that is really tall on one side, but shorter on all the rest. This feature seems usable in many different ways.

Riders will find a number of rails here to grind, my favorite was the arched rail! Without a tail on my longboard it’s nearly impossible to ollie so I don’t get to utilize rails very often. I was determined to successfully grind this arched rail, and I did!

This may have been my first full rail grind, so I was stoked when I finally landed it! You can see the grind and experience the Buena Vista Skatepark by watching our video!

The street side of the skatepark also has a separated wood half pipe and a few quarter pipes with a huge boulder in the middle. (this skatepark rocks). The Colorado Rockies set a mountain vibe and make for a beautiful backdrop to the park!

The back corner of the street section has a pretty flat area that’s great for skate plaza style skating and standing tricks. The banked turn adds some flow to this area. And it’s another great example of a medium sized very useable feature. This banked wall provides a great place to learn how to hit the coping. Plus, the gradual change in angle makes it easy to naturally improve your skills a little bit at a time.

So many fun features!

The back side of the skatepark has a really funky ramp. It has humps in the middle and rounded walls with coping on either side. This funny area turned out to be really fun when you got creative and learned how to ride on these features.

They filled this park with fun features and most of them have smooth transitions like this narrow rounded hump. These obstacles are fun because they are unique but not intimidating which makes it fun to try new things and gradually improve your skills and confidence as a rider.

I think riders of any age and any skill level will have fun at the Buena Vista Skatepark. I think everyone will find an opportunity to somehow improve their skill set while skating here. Advanced athletes will appreciate what this park has to offer and can easily spend hours here.
