Cañon City Skatepark | Big Bowl with a Great Flow

We have experienced many really cool skateparks in Colorado that are great for cement surfing with the longboard. The Cañon City Skatepark in Colorado is one of these great skateparks! I found the flow and transitions of this 15,000 sq. ft. concrete skatepark to be great for longboarding. This is not the biggest skatepark but it has a great use of space and is a lot of fun!

First Impressions of the Cañon City Skatepark:

When we first parked at the Cañon City Skatepark I thought the park looked small, but once I walked past all the trees I could see that the skatepark was mostly one big bowl.

Pros: Great vert and flow bowl with a steep roll in and a variety of street obstacles along the outside.

Cons: Nothing to complain about!

Know Before You Go: Lights until 10 pm. This skatepark was built by Team Pain Skateparks and the rest of the larger Mountain View Park has a playground, pavilion, restrooms and soccer fields.

Riders Thoughts: Cañon City Skatepark

The Cañon City Skatepark has both street and vert obstacles but the main feature of the skatepark is the large bowl right in the middle. This large bowl is surrounded in coping except for one rounded peninsula that provides athletes with a steep roll in.

The rounded corners and the way the peninsula sticks out provides riders with a good place to roll in from either direction. This allows for regular and goofy riders to take the turn toe and heel side. The roll in really makes this skatepark for me because it allows me to comfortably skate with the longboard. This smooth transition makes the bowl much more doable with a longboard because it is a great way to enter to bowl with a lot of speed and without having to drop in.

Once you’re in, the bowl has a really great flow. The large walls are prefect for building speed and the variety of rounded pockets provide a natural flow that riders can take in different directions. I found it easy and fun to go really fast here!

Along the perimeter of the Cañon City Skatepark you will find a wider and flatter area for pop tricks or for mellow cruising. There are also boxes, ramps, and rails that can be easily incorporated into a riders line.

Along the backside of the skatepark you will find the parks 3 stair set between two large boxes and ramps. This backside portion flows down and over a rounded hump then back up the other side where you will find a double rail.
