Heading east from Steamboat Springs along US Highway 40 the road passes into Routt National Forest. Here you'll find a number of dirt roads branching off of the highway leading to different hikes, lakes and campgrounds. And along many of these forest roads is where there you'll find opportunities for beautiful dispersed camping.

Dispersed camping near Walden Reservoir is a nice destination in itself as well as a great location for accessing the incredible surrounding wilderness areas. This BLM land has a number of dispersed camping options including several shore side spots with nice scenic views of the mountains in the distance. Here you'll also find a surprising diversity of birds frequenting the reservoir and likely a few too many mosquitoes. Whether as the destination, a home base or a resupply point, Walden is a nice little town with all of the necessities.

Dispersed Camping Near Dinosaur National Monument | Blue Mountain Road
Blue Mountain Road is a long road full of great options for dispersed camping near Dinosaur National Monument. Blue Mountain Road can be accessed from the 40 in Utah or from Harpers Canyon Road in the Colorado side of the monument. Camping at McInnis Canyon National Conservation Area | Jouflas Campground
Just two miles into Colorado off I-70 there are several great options for free camping at McInnis Canyon National Conservation Area. And there's plenty to see and do in the area to make this a worthwhile stop. As far as camping goes, choose from a spot in one of the nice BLM campgrounds or choose one of the designated dispersed camp spots. And if you're set up for more adventure and rough roads, there are also camping options on the Colorado River.

Free Camping Near Williams | Bill Williams Loop Road
Bill Williams Loop Road is a great area to find nice dispersed camping near Williams. Located just off of I-40 in Kaibab National Forest there are numerous spots to choose from and the road is in great condition. This makes a great place to relax in the forest with opportunities to check out several lakes in the area, explore the dirt roads or take a hike. The area is peaceful and you may even spot wildlife. Less than an hour from Flagstaff, the town of Williams itself is a cool little Route 66 throwback town. As you can see, there's plenty to do while camping near Williams. So read on…
