Our Experience Camping Near Divide
After checking out some skateparks in Colorado Springs, we headed towards Pikes National Forest. It happened to be the weekend when we found this dispersed camping near Divide. When we reached the national forest boundary, the pavement ended and turned to a well maintained dirt road.
First, we passed a large parking area/OHV staging area. This area very popular with OHV’s, especially on weekends. There was a vault toilet here as well.
As we continued along the forest road, we noticed many more dispersed camp spots – all full. Many of the spots were pretty level and large enough for several rigs. It was getting late and clearly most people were already settled in for the weekend. So we grabbed a subpar camp spot where we stayed until the weekend traffic headed home.

During the weekend, people were clearly out having a great time enjoying the trails and the camping near Divide. It was lively with OHV’s and a bit dusty but nothing crazy. By Monday, the traffic died down quite a bit. That’s when we moved to a better camp spot.
Our new camp spot was near a sort of ledge so it had nice, vast views overlooking Pike National Forest. When we were here camping near Divide, the leaves were just starting to change to yellow.
Even during the week, this area never really emptied out but it definitely calmed down. We enjoyed the views and Shane enjoyed riding the mini bike on the OHV trails.
While we were camping near Divide, we headed out and hiked Crags Trail. And we noticed how much there is to do in the surrounding area. There are numerous trailheads in the area including the popular Devil’s Playground hike by Pikes Peak and a short drive to Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument. We didn’t spend long camping in Pikes National Forest but it seems like the outdoor recreation is endless. But that’s Colorado for ya, huh?
