Diverse and Unique Metzler Ranch Skatepark in Castle Rock, Colorado

Next up on our skatepark road trip through Colorado is Metzler Ranch Skatepark in Castle Rock, Colorado. This skatepark is a large cement skatepark with a good variety of different features. This variety provides something fun for all riding styles and abilities. I was able to find a pretty good flow for my cement surfing style of riding a longboard in a skatepark. Read on to find out more about the layout and various features of the Castle Rock Skatepark.

First Impressions: Metzler Ranch Skatepark in Castle Rock

Pros: Good street, medium bowl, many different types of transitions, and a half pipe.

Cons: I had a good time, nothing to complain about.

Know Before You Go: The Castle Rock Skatepark is located inside the larger Metzler Ranch Park, where you’ll find play grounds, sports fields, sports courts, batting gages, and picnic tables and pavilions. The skatepark has lights at the push of a button.

Hours:

  • November – March: Sunrise to 9 pm
  • April – October: Sunrise to 11 pm

Riders Thoughts: Castle Rock Skatepark

Castle Rock Skatepark has a few features that make it stand out from other skateparks that we have been to in Colorado. The layout of the skatepark is pretty unique because of the incorporated landscaping which includes dirt, bushes, and even full sized trees in the middle of the skatepark! This little dirt island splits the skatepark into a few different sections but the smooth surface continues around the entire park so all the areas are still connected and flow together pretty well.

Metzler Ranch Skatepark is a good place for riders of all different skill levels. The features range from small to large with everything in between. This area of the skatepark (above) shows some of the smaller obstacles that are good for teaching riders how to deal with new transitions. It is also provides a great place for advanced riders to show their technical skills because there are multiple rails, ramps, boxes, ledges, steps, ramps, and curbs in a compact area.

The large and main area of the skatepark in Castle Rock has a big open layout. There are a variety of large ramps and quarter pipes leading down to a flat floor with a large pyramid island in the middle. This is where riders can find the largest vert walls of the skatepark. With good speed, the tall vert walls and banked turns can provide a pretty good flow around the park.

The skatepark in Castle Rock provides great opportunity for riders to advance their skills. The many different ramps and walls have different angles and steepness levels which helps riders gradually become better and more confident.

The middle island of the skatepark has angled ramps and rounded ramps. This is great for teaching riders how to deal with different types of transitions. The park also provides many areas of coping and also areas with cement ledges so riders can experience the difference. The half pipe is pretty cool because one side is higher than the other, which is odd but different. and encourages some creative thought when skating.

The stand alone bowl at the Metzler Ranch Skatepark adds to the uniqueness of this park. This bowl has a really interesting almost clover shape with a downhill flow and a gradual increase in depth. It is fully lined in coping, so you gotta drop in. But the shallow side is pretty mellow so it’s a great place to learn how to drop in!

Castle Rock Skatepark in Metzler Ranch Park has a lot of character. And this memorable skatepark is fun no matter what your skill level is. You will most likely be a better and more experienced skater when you leave here!
