Drop Through Longboard
A drop through longboard is not so much a longboard shape but a collection of longboard shapes. This type of longboard includes any longboard that features drop through truck mounts. Drop through longboards have specific mounting holes in the deck that allow the trucks to be mounted to the top of the deck while allowing the trucks to drop through the deck.
Any longboard trucks can be mounted in this drop through style. There is not a special truck requirement to be mounted on a drop through board. But the longboard deck must have the proper hole placement for the trucks.
Benefits of A Drop Through Longboard
Having drop through trucks is a feature that provides a few different benefits to the rider. One of the main benefits of having drop through mounted trucks is that the board will have a lower center of gravity. Having a lower center of gravity on a longboard is beneficial when performing any type of longboard slides. The lower center of gravity helps prevent the longboard from tipping over while sliding.

Having drop through trucks lowers the center of gravity by actually lowering the longboard deck closer to the ground. This itself can be a benefit too because some riders feel more comfortable while kicking when their board is lower to the ground. Having the longboard deck lower to the ground can also make foot breaking a little easier because the rider will not have to squat down as low to drag their foot on the ground.
Drop through decks can come in a variety of shapes, but this feature is typically found on freestyle shape longboards. This improves the turning radius and allows the rider to avoid wheel bite.
A drop through deck can be made of a number of different materials, but is traditionally made of various woods. Since drop through boards are often desired for someone who is intending to slide, we recommend a sturdy and firm wood deck is recommended. At Lost Coast Longboarding, our drop through longboards are made of Canadian Maple, which is a strong wood with little flex great for this style of longboard.
