Exciting Bike Park and Pump Track in Menifee, CA

The pump track in Menifee, California is a 22,000 square foot asphalt pump track built by the team at Velosolutions in 2022. The pump track is part of the larger Gale Webb Action Sports Park which features both dirt and asphalt pump track areas. The park was created with guidance from Gale Webb (a local hall of fame skateboarder) and the city of Menifee to encourage kids to get outside, have fun, and enjoy physical fitness. Luckily, on our visit to the Menifee Pump Track we had the opportunity to meet Gale Webb herself! We talked with her about the park, her history in the action sports world, and her goals to get kids comfortable with action sports with her KIDS-R-#1 initiative.

When we first arrived, it was immediately apparent that Gale Webb Action Sports Park was a huge draw for bikers of all ages. The parking lot was dirt, the bathrooms were portable and you won’t find the typical park amenities. But if you enjoy biking, you’re going to be very happy here!

Pros: Amazing facility for bike enthusiasts.

Cons: There are advanced features in this asphalt pump track that make it difficult for skateboards and longboards.

Riders Thoughts: Gale Webb Pump Track in Menifee

The pump track in Menifee, California is one of the most advanced Velosolution pump tracks I have experienced so far. And I would be surprised to see longboards here very often. The 22,000 sq. ft. pump track provides a lot of space and speed for athletes as they cruise around the track. The pump track has one large main track as well as a smaller slightly separated beginners loop.

Longboarding the Menifee Pump Track was an experience for sure. When you get here you may see a gathering of athletes at the top of the track (seen above in photo). The flow of the traffic made it clear that this was the designated start of the track. And everyone seemed to be in agreement that this was the route. Everyone seemed very aware of who was going and timed their laps well. Just one person going the wrong direction would have thrown the whole park out of whack. There’s a posted list of etiquette rules to be aware of which everyone seemed to actually follow so there was order to the traffic.

With the high volume of people that may be here it is good to have order amongst the traffic. Unfortunately, this order really limits the creativity you can have with your route. As you can see in the map above, if you follow the determined route there are 6 left turns to the 1 right turns. But there are some transitions in this park that can ONLY be taken in one direction.

The most advanced transition I have ever seen in a Velosolutions pump track is here at the Menifee Pump Track. And it happens to be one of the first transitions in the track. What makes this transition stand out? It has a sharp angled jump transition that continues to go up another hump and then down very steep right into another of the exact same transitions. ALL riders, no matter what vehicle (bike, longboard, skateboard, scooter, roller blades) will have to get airborne to make it over this angle.

I don’t really recommend this obstacle on a longboard. But if you are going to attempt it, my advice is to go as fast as you can, because your back trucks and wheels have to clear the edge before your front wheels are down. (I would also recommend a helmet). This feature can be avoided if you’re aware of when and where to stop your line.

The rest of the Menifee Pump Track is a very steep and very fast. Many of the hills and humps in this pump track are tall which make you go fast. This is good and necessary because you have to go fast to get up the next steep and tall hump. This constant up and down forces all athletes to work very hard. And the length of this pump track adds to the difficulty because it is very easy to completely exhaust your legs.

Many of the steep transitions at the Menifee Pump Track will cause a longboard to bottom out and scrape along the bottom. The transitions are steep, but they are also smooth. The flow of this park is exciting because you’re always going fast. And the smooth transitions allow you to focus on what’s next not what you’re doing now. This pump track has a number of “forks in the road” which force you to choose a direction. When you first try the track it is easy to feel lost. But after a few laps you’ll understand where to go.

When we were here I was the only one on any kind of skateboard, so be aware of the bike traffic. It seems like there is often a good amount of people here, both big and small, so be aware of their routes.

Advanced bikes might jump over features and ride a different line than you may expect. And be aware of the little ones. Sometimes they have no idea what’s going on… but they’re babies so give em a break.

Gale Webb Bike Park

The bike park section of the Gale Webb Action Sports Park provides bike trails with over 30 obstacles for different skill levels. When we were talking to Gale she said she didn’t want kids to get hurt or be intimidated by the advanced pump track and bike features. That’s why she included many small and medium sized obstacles so kids have the opportunity to gradually improve their skills.

There are so many features that turn this park into a bicycle playground. Advanced bike riders will have a field day at the action park. There are so many jumps and ramps. The park has some pretty cool features such as tall banked wood plank turns, a rounded wood launch, and a full pipe.
