Our Experience: Free Camping Near Lassen Volcanic National Park

We got into the area late and ended up looking for camping near Lassen in the dark. As we were driving down this particular forest road, we noticed that there were several other campers along the way. That was a good sign that there were more dispersed camp spots. The road in was pretty rough and we were towing our travel trailer so we were moving super slow. It was hard to spot turn outs in the dark and even harder to see if the spots were big enough for us. Luckily, we went far enough and found a good sized spot that wasn’t too much trouble to get into!

Then next morning we woke up and took in our new surroundings! We were in a beautiful forested valley of super tall pines. It was a very peaceful setting.

During our time camping near Lassen National Park we experienced minimal traffic. There were some people passing through every once in a while but it was not a consistent thing. From our spot, we could look up through the trees and sometimes we could see the cars on the road above travelling to and from the national park. And if they were loud vehicles or trucks then we could sometimes hear them as well. But overall this was a very peaceful camp spot!

This is fantastic and is now added to my “must go there” list! Your detailed descriptions and information are so interesting – especially since my “sidekick” of 57 years is a retired earth science teacher and we are both geology “nuts”. Keep the good info coming! Love it!
