Our Experience Camping Near Vicksburg
When we first got into the area, it was dark. Luckily the road was in good condition but it was still a bit tricky to find a spot. We noticed several turn offs along the main road but as we pull off our lights would expose a camper already tucked back in the area. So after awhile we found a spot where it didn’t seem like we would bother anyone and decided to scope out the area in the morning.
The next morning, we went for a walk and now that we could see our surroundings it was much easier to find a spot away from other campers. We found a nice spot with decent privacy, a large yard and a pretty view of the vast desert landscape.
Camp Here Later – Pin it Now!
One great thing about camping near Vicksburg is that the camp spots are all relatively level. Plus the ground is covered in little black stones so there was no concern about typical sandy desert conditions.
While we were camping near Vicksburg, there were numerous other campers but there is also plenty of space to spread out. Many of the campers looked like they’d been here awhile and they were near the beginning of the dispersed camping area. The further in you go and the harder you look for a good spot, the better it’ll be! During our stay, it was very peaceful (with the exception of the occasional train) and the winter weather was great.
We didn’t stay long this time but we did get some work done and we were able to explore around our camp spot a bit. There were several saguaros and your typical desert washes to walk through. And of course, beautiful desert skies. All in all, camping near Vicksburg was a nice spot to break up the trip through the desert in the winter and to experience a new area.
