Riders Thoughts: Goodyear Skatepark
Anybody who enjoys human powered wheeled sports will love the Goodyear Skatepark! …I think… I don’t see why anyone wouldn’t, this park has it all! When I first entered the skatepark though the tall gate I felt like a kid walking into a candy store. The super smooth cement is just the beginning of the experience here. A large mellow ramp leads riders from the entrance gate down to the center of the main skating area where riders can find obstacles and banked turns in almost every direction.
Most of the Goodyear Skatepark is geared towards a vert and transitions style of riding. So it’s set up perfectly for my style of riding a longboard in a skatepark. The smooth transitions and banked turns can make riders feel like they’re surfing on cement.
The Goodyear Skatepark has a sick snake run area that has a great flow that riders can take in either direction. The space between the banked turns in combination with a large rounded hump in the middle makes it possible for riders to switch the directions of their flow while maintaining a high speed the entire time. The flow of this area is great for longboarding in a skatepark and the variety of roll ins and transitions into this area make it fun for riders to approach from a variety of angles and directions. A unique feature of this skatepark is the very deep cradle. The back of this cradle creates a large rounded transition in the snake run area.
The street area of the Goodyear Skatepark has a few boxes and a few rails. There are some tall boxes with metal ledges around the perimeter of the park in this area. And there’s another box with a variety of ledge heights at the center of the main large mellow ramp. This area is also home to a ramped pyramid on which a sole rail sits. The mellow ramps on this feature help add to the flow of the this area of the skatepark.
There are two stand alone bowls at the Goodyear Skatepark, the first of which is a small and steep pool. Advanced riders will enjoy the challenge that this pool provides! Here you can also see the bathrooms and the drinking fountain with awesome artwork.
Shred it Later – Pin it Now
The other bowl is huge, it literally takes up half of the Goodyear Skatepark. This bowl has a very unique shape with a ton of different pockets and banked turns that naturally link together with a great flow. The tall walls make it so riders can move really fast and carry that speed throughout the entire bowl.
This large bowl area is mostly lined in coping with the occasional very steep cement ledge. Advanced riders will really enjoy this bowl and the intensity that it brings, but less experienced riders may find it hard to get in this bowl.
The large bowl at the Goodyear Skatepark also features a full cradle. This cradle is different than most cradles because it goes in very deep. The narrow entrance to the cradle made it difficult for me to enter with my longboard, but the unique shape creates a full tunnel where experts could ride an entire loop.
Overall, the Goodyear Skatepark near Phoenix is an amazing skatepark where riders of any skill level will have a blast. It’s easy to lose track of time while at this skatepark because it has such a good flow and the lines just seem to go and go! Advanced riders will have a blast here, and longboarders will find a good flow and some great cement waves!
