Hiking Tom’s Creek | Coconino National Forest
Hiking Tom’s Creek is a random adventure that we found while getting to know the area. After spending some time camping near the edge of the Mogollon Rim, we planned to hike Point Trail. Little did we know how mind blowingly amazing that hike was going to be! So we found a dispersed camp spot off of Forest Road 616 a little closer to the trail. But after we got all settled into our new spot that morning we got curious of what else was around! On our adventure hiking Tom’s Creek, we encountered some random things and wandered through some really pretty scenery. Follow us as we explore Tom’s Creek!

Our Experience: Hiking Tom’s Creek
We settled into our new camp spot then headed out to check out the area. That’s when we found Tom’s Creek! And you usually can’t go wrong hiking near or to water. We found a spot to park then followed the creek upstream through the pretty, green and wooded canyon.
At the beginning of our adventure, we were walking along a primitive road. But then the trail would narrow down to a single track before returning to something resembling a road.
As we were hiking Tom’s Creek, we entered a canyon with steep wooded hillsides on all around us. The creek itself isn’t very deep but it was super clean and clear! And eventually, Tom’s Creek disappeared completely before making a reappearance.
Along the way, we encountered several cool large rock formations jutting out of the forested hillsides. They definitely added some pizzazz to the already pretty and peaceful scenery.

Shane’s favorite park of hiking along Tom’s Creek had to be the infinite amount of cool rocks! We found numerous geodes, fossils and just cool looking rocks.
As we worked our way further and further into the canyon we reached a collapsed log shelter.
After we passed the confluence, the trail started to get more narrow as we walked along the steep hillside. Once it started to get super overgrown we decided to turn back.
On the way back we encountered several off road vehicles driving along the trail and through the creek. But on the way in we only encountered two others hiking out.
