Exploring Red Hollow Trail
Cedar City is one of those places that is gifted with many surrounding recreation opportunities and natural beauty! Although we didn’t get to dive in and explore as much as we would have liked to, the adventures we did have were a lot of fun. We had a great longboarding adventure on Coal Creek trail. The trail starts just a couple miles east of Cedar City on Route 14. And as we were parking for the longboard trail we noticed a small parking area with a small trailhead sign for Red Hollow Trail on the north side of the road. So after our cruise we thought we should check it out!
Hiking Red Hollow Trail
From Cedar City, follow Route 14 east for about two miles. There is a dirt parking area on the north side of the road. You are in the right place if you see a large tree with a bunch of shoes hanging from it.
Red Hollow Trail begins in a beautiful red rock canyon with contrasting green conifers dispersed throughout. As soon as you get up and out of the parking area, look back across the street and the backdrop is already breathtaking!
The trail is mostly made of red dirt and is a little bit rocky. We found out that this trail is also commonly used for mountain biking. Eventually, you climb up to a saddle and this is where Red Hollow Trail connects with Thor’s Hideout Trail.
Once on top of the saddle, there is another beautiful view of the vast expanse of red rock scenery. The trail is well defined as it winds down through the canyon through beautiful junipers. We continued on Thor’s Hideout Trail until it intersected with Thunderbird Gardens Trail.
We followed Thunderbird Gardens Trail until it ended. Here we found a large parking lot accessible from the other side of the valley. On the trail, further in from the parking lot, we found more beautiful red rocks that allowed for some exploring and climbing around. The trail on this side continues on for a bit, but this is when we headed back the way we came.
Thanks for Reading!
All in all, Red Hollow Trail was a fun, quick little hike among beautiful red rock scenery and with some great vast views. After hiking this section, we realized that there are numerous trail connections that you can add on and explore more of the area.
