Riders Thoughts:
The Thomas J. Slocum Memorial Skatepark in Thornton is a large cement skatepark with smooth cement in every direction. The unique layout of this skatepark is pretty long compared to other skateparks. This can create a sort of track-like feeling and flow.
From the entrance riders can head left to find a long mellow and narrow bowl. This bowl will lead riders to the volcano and large quarter pipe at the end of the park.
Or riders can go right to start on the downhill slope and track feature. Riders will head down a narrow snake like run with small banked turns as they head down the long straight away on the outside of the skatepark. This long straight away has a number of humps that gradually increase in size. These allow riders to quickly build up speed.
These humps create a very pump track like feeling and really help add to the circuit or track aspect of the skatepark. These features are a lot of fun while riding a longboard in the skatepark because they add a flowy and surf like feeling to the experience.
Shred it Later – Pin it Now
Once riders have built up all that speed on the straight away they enter the large banked horse shoe shaped turn on the far side of the skatepark. Here is where riders can find the tallest walls and vert in the park. The horse shoe has a hump on the ground mid way through the turn that helps riders maintain a high speed though the turn.
The Thomas J. Slocum Memorial Skatepark in Thornton is littered with street skating obstacles and features. Riders can find a number of boxes, rails, ledges, stairs, and even a fire hydrant around the park.
The middle of the skatepark has a number of ramps and slopes that connect to each other creating an open and spacious layout while also creating some separation between areas.
Close to the entrance of the Thornton Skatepark riders will see the standalone bowl. This bowl is a classic pool like bowl with tiles and a change in depth creating a shallow and deep side.
This skatepark in Thornton is great for riders of any age or skill level because there is such a wide variety of skating obstacles. Plus they range in size from very easy and gradual to tall and steep. Riders can easily enjoy the park no matter how much traffic or how many athletes are out because the large, open layout provides good visibility and plenty of space!
