Our Experience Longboarding Truckee River Legacy Trail
We started longboarding the Truckee River Legacy trail at the Regional Park where the Truckee Skatepark is. There is plenty of parking at the park and you’ll also find bathrooms, drinking fountains, a playground and some picnic areas.
The path down to the bike trail can be found at the back of the park by the disc golf area. Or you can make your way over towards the baseball fields where you’ll find a hockey rink and the beginning of the bike path. The path starts in the woods and the smooth pavement makes for a very enjoyable ride.
The 6 mile ride along the Truckee River runs through a mix of wooded sections and some beautiful open spaces that provide a beautiful backdrop for a mellow longboard run. Most of the path is pretty level making for a pretty easy longboarding experience and the wide path is great for some carving and pumping.
The path is well utilized by the community so it’s likely that you’ll find some traffic on the Truckee River Trail. Be aware of other riders and bikes traveling fast. As you make your way east on the path you’ll eventually go under the large highway bridge.
Cruise it Later – Pin it Now!
Most of the path is pretty level but there are a few fun downhill areas where it’s pretty easy to go fast. I was able to build up a good amount of speed with some big kicks and pumping my flexy Lost Coast Longboarding longboard.
The Truckee River Legacy Trail ends at Glenshire Drive. You can tell you’re getting close to the end of the trail when you have to cross the bridge over the stream. After crossing the bridge, you’ll come to a very large and steep hill with a number of switchbacks. This final ascent leads to the end where you’ll reach a parking area and an overlook. One of the highlights of longboarding Truckee River Legacy Trail was this overlook at the top of this hill. There is an amazing scenic view of the river, forest and mountains in the distance. Longboarding down the hill is pretty intense and will require some power slides to slow down if you attempt it.
Overall, longboarding Truckee River Legacy Trail is a great experience! Not only is the path smooth and fun but the beautiful surrounding scenery makes this path a memorable one. The trail was smooth and the majority of it was level making it a fun, mellow longboard run. Just be prepared for a lot of kicking. If you follow the path east paralleling Brockway Road, there is another short section of paved path. You’ll find a pretty good hill run right away. Then the trail will continue past the golf course before eventually ending in a neighborhood.
