Riders Thoughts: Mehaffey Skatepark in Loveland

There are two skateparks in Loveland, the Sports Park Skatepark and Mehaffey Skatepark. And I’d have to say that the Mehaffey Skatepark is definitely my favorite of the two. This skatepark has a lot of great transitions and a pretty flowy layout which is great for my style of riding. The big flow bowl is ideal for surfing the cement on a longboard. The shape of the bowl and features inside are great for pumping and keeping a high speed!

You can see the unique shape of the snake bowl from this birds eye view. This bowl is great because it has a variety of entry methods such as coping, cement ledges, as well as a number of different degree roll in areas. When riding into the bowl from the main roll in riders experience a significant downhill which continues all the way to end of the bowl. But the shape and smooth humps in the bowl make it easy to carry that speed up hill back to the start of the bowl.

The big snake bowl at Mehaffey Skatepark has a few different unique transitions that can be tricky, but skating on these can build experience to a skaters abilities. The huge concrete stump and the area next to it are home to a bunch of these cool transitions.

The stand alone bowl at Mehaffey Skatepark is modeled after the classic pools. The bowl even has pool steps and a pool light! The steepness of the walls and the flow of this bowl make it a pretty difficult bowl to skate, but advanced riders should really enjoy their experience in the pool. The little light seems so simple, but it is quite an intimidating obstacle once you’re flying around on the walls. You feel a great sense of accomplishment when you make it over the light!

The street section of the Mehaffey Skatepark in Loveland has a ton of obstacles, and a pretty decent flow compared to most street parks. A few banked turns and long quarter pipes on either end of the street area help direct the flow making it easy for riders to find long creative lines. There are a number of cement boxes and ledges as well as a great variety of rails to grind.

The whole Mehaffey Skatepark flows together pretty well making it easy to transition from the vert side of the park to the street side. The sun here can be really hot so it’s nice to have a pretty centrally located shady spot to chill and make some friends. You can see the big awning below. A picnic table here might be convenient… but sitting on the ground is good too lol.
