Mountain Ridge Skate Park

Mountain Ridge Skatepark is one of the many skateparks worth checking out in the Las Vegas area! Of all the activities that come to mind at the mention of Las Vegas, we had no idea how good the skate scene was. Each skatepark in the area has its own unique layout and variety of features. After you spend some time shredding at Mountain Ridge Skate Park, be sure to also check out Durango, Anthem and Craig Ranch Skateparks!

While we were spending time in the Las Vegas area waiting for the winter weather to end in the rest of the country, we found some other worthwhile stops! For a great longboarding adventure, check out the exciting paved Wetlands Loop Trail or the Arroyo Grande Pump Track. And for camping you can’t beat Logandale Trails with a close proximity to incredible hiking in Valley of Fire. But let’s get back to the layout and features of Mountain Ridge Skate Park!

The large bowl area of Mountain Ridge Skatepark

Mountain Ridge Skatepark is located off the intersection of West Elkhorn Road and Oso Blanca Road at Mountain Ridge Park. The park is located near the I-95 underpass behind the Lofts at 7100 apartment buildings. Mountain Ridge Park has a huge parking lot as well as baseball fields, tennis courts, a roller hockey rink, walking trails and a playground. The park itself was almost empty when we were here. But with a parking lot this big it must get busy with baseball and softball games.

About the Skatepark Features

Mountain Ridge Skatepark is a large skatepark that is broken up into two main areas. The area of the skatepark closest to the parking lot is made up of a very large bowl. It has coping on most of the edges with the exception of where there are stairs and steep ramps entering the bowl area.

There are various boxes and rails inside of the large bowl as well. Most of the bowl is very wide, making it hard to keep momentum while cruising around. My favorite part of this bowl was the corner area that transitions into a smaller bowl allowing for more lines to cruise.

Next to the large bowl area is a smaller stand alone figure eight bowl with full coping. These bowls are pretty tight and pretty steep too, so a skateboarder would be moving very quickly in these bowls.

The skatepark has a seating area that separates the bowl side from the street side of the park. There are bleachers with shade covering as well as a drinking fountain and trash cans.

The street area of the Mountain Ridge Skatepark is very large and is contained in what looks like an old basketball court. There is a large variety of boxes, ramps and rails, as well as half and quarter pipes. I was surprised that such a great skatepark was so empty!

Large street section of the Mountain Ridge Skatepark

Since I primarily ride a longboard, I enjoyed the large bowl area of this skatepark. I prefer more snake bowls and turns but the street area of this skatepark is one of the best that I’ve seen. I could definitely see some skaters shredding this street course.

Overall, Mountain Ridge Skatepark has a little bit of everything. The very large bowl area is surrounded in coping, but it would be nice to have a section or two where skaters could roll in. Also, I think that the large amount of empty space in the bowl could have been utilized better by adding some turns, humps, or other smooth transitioning obstacles. But the street section of this skate park is one of the best we’ve seen. So if you’re a street style skater, this is the park for you!
