Northside Skatepark in Fort Collins | Creative and Fun Skatepark

The Northside Skatepark in Fort Collins AKA the Atzlan Skatepark is medium sized concrete skatepark with a good variety of features that all sorts of skaters will enjoy. The Northside Skatepark opened in 2008 and has a pretty unique DIY skate vibe. The artwork around the skatepark along with the close by buildings and train tracks sets a pretty cool environment with an industrial feel. And the open grass field in the park provides some balance.

First Impressions: Northside Skatepark

When we first pulled up to the skatepark, I immediately noticed the huge oil/pollution monster mural on the wall and knew that this skatepark had some character. The obstacles looked pretty unique and I was excited to check it out!

Pros: Variety of obstacles, small bowl, and pretty good flow.

Cons: No big vert, no bathrooms.

Know Before You Go: There are some lights, but not totally sure how illuminated the park is at night.

Riders Thoughts:

The Northside Atzlan Skatepark in Fort Collins, Colorado is a fun skatepark with some pretty unique features and transitions. The Oil Monster mural is a great backdrop to the flat street section of the skatepark where riders can find a variety of cool street features. This street section has a few pump track like features that really add a great amount of flow to this section of the park. Plus they’re also fun when riding a longboard in the skatepark.

There are a few different riding surfaces on this side of the Atzlan Skatepark including two different brick walls. These walls are pretty cool because they have a few different heights with pockets and ledges. The walls also have a smooth transition to the ground. These walls in combination with the humps really add flow and set up riders for a number of great wall rides.

From the main street area with the brick walls, the Northside Skatepark continues into more of a smooth transitioned snake run/bowl area. This area of the skatepark also has a lot of flow and some other unique features. This area of the skatepark made for some fun cement surfing on the longboard.

There are a few rounded humps on the floor in this area. These are great for pumping and maintaining speed through out a run. But be careful, you might bottom out on these. This area has a pretty mellow bowl with rounded corners that flows nicely with the rest of this side of the skatepark. This bowl can also make for a good half pipe.

Through out the Northside Atzlan Skatepark riders will find a combination of cement and metal ledges as well as a good amount of coping. The coping in this skatepark has some pretty cool cuts in it that adds to the industrial feel of the skatepark. These cuts don’t really seem to do much, but they look cool!

The Northside Skatepark in Fort Collins definitely has a DIY skatepark feel in many different aspects. Many of the street obstacles seem moveable and there are many areas of cement that look like they have been added on. This give a very raw feeling to the skatepark. These additions to the skatepark really show the creativity of the builders and help to aid riders in creative lines!

The back corner of the skatepark has an example of a creative design. These transitions are rounded and great for a street skating style.

Colorado is home to a ton of great skateparks. And the Northside Atzlan Skatepark in Fort Collins is a great addition to the list! This fun park is good for riders of any skill level – whether you’re just learning or if you’re a seasoned pro. And the flow of this park is pretty fun to cruise on a longboard.
