Lakes Basin Recreation Area is an unbelievable destination in the northern Sierra Nevada mountains with an incredible landscape of jagged, dramatic peaks and numerous glacially carved lakes. Gold Lake Highway is a scenic route that connects Bassets Station to Graeagle and provides access to endless outdoor recreation in this gorgeous area.

Free Camping Near the Sierra Buttes | Gold Lake Highway
After spending some time exploring the northern Gold Lake Highway in Plumas National Forest, we still had more to see and we weren't quite ready to leave the area. So that's when we headed to the southern section of Gold Lake Highway in Tahoe National Forest. And we were stoked to find that there were actually options for free camping near the Sierra Buttes. To find this spot, we actually asked some rangers about any dispersed camping in the area and they pointed us to this spot.

Kremmling Skatepark | Unique Features for Longboarding
The Kremmling Skatepark is a medium sized cement skatepark measuring in at 7,000 square feet. This Grindline skatepark opened in 2007 and is located right next to the West Grand High School in Kremmling, Colorado. This skatepark has some good street obstacles as well as good vert features. I found the large bowl and vert section fun for cement surfing while longboarding in a skatepark.

Sk8Way Skatepark in La Junta | Big Vert and Good Flow
Sk8Way Skatepark in La Junta, Colorado is a fun 16,700 square foot concrete skatepark. Designed by Site Design Group, this skatepark opened in 2004 but is still a great skatepark to check out. There are a number of street skating obstacles as well as some big vert and diverse bowls. Howard Heuston Skatepark in Boulder, CO | Small With Great Flow
The Howard Heuston Skatepark in Boulder, Colorado is a small skatepark opened in 2021 and built by Evergreen Skateparks. Although only 3,500 square feet, this skatepark is packed with flow and smooth transitions in all directions. If you're a fan of the Evergreen-style skateparks, as I am, then you will definitely have a good time here.

The Superior Skatepark and Pump Track near Boulder, Colorado is a cool combination of a traditional skatepark with an asphalt pump track. Opened in March of 2019 this combination facility is designed in part by Pivot Customs Skateparks and Velosolutions Pump Tracks. The flow and banked turns make this pump track near Boulder, Colorado great for longboarding! And the skatepark has a mix of both street and vert features.

Beautiful Waterfalls on North Yuba River in Northern California
While we were camping near the Sierra Buttes on Gold Lake Highway, we set off on an adventure to three different waterfalls on North Yuba River near Sierra City in northern California. We had so much fun discovering these new areas that we went back a second time to explore even more. And while we were exploring we found a bonus swim hole and an extra waterfall that we weren't expecting to find!

Eagle Rim Skatepark in Grand Junction | Unique and Diverse
Eagle Rim Skatepark in Grand Junction is a unique, compact skatepark. Opened back in 2000, this 9,000 square foot skatepark has a creative design especially for its time. There is a good variety of street obstacles and a small vert section. And one cool feature is the cement track around the perimeter that has number of small hills and banked turns.
