Pioneer Skatepark in Commerce City | Bowl and Great Street Plaza
Pioneer Skatepark is a really nice 16,900 square foot concrete skatepark in Commerce City, Colorado. This SITE Design Group creation provides a great diversity of concrete obstacles in a street plaza environment. In addition to the street oriented features, there is a interesting bowl with its own unique characteristics. The size of the features here make this a pretty approachable skatepark for riders of any age or skill level. The flow and layout of Pioneer Skatepark are not great for my cement surfing style of longboarding in a skatepark. But street skaters will really enjoy this park.
First Impressions:
When we first got to Pioneer Skatepark immediately realized that this is geared towards a very street dominant style of skating. The plaza has many features that riders will find in real world street skating scenarios.
Pros: Street plaza, big bowl with a unique sun roofed cradle
Cons: Not much flow, limited transitions for vert riders

Riders Thoughts: Pioneer Skatepark
Pioneer Skatepark in Commerce City is a great skatepark for any one looking to strengthen their street skating skills. The skatepark layout has a very skate plaza vibe with a few solid quarter pipes and an eight step stair set leading up to a flat open platform.
Throughout Pioneer Skatepark riders will find a ton of real world street skating obstacles. When I say “real world” skate features I mean things/features that you can find as you ride down a regular downtown street. Features such as concrete curbs, small ramps and stairs, hand railings or concrete planter boxes.
Riders can find some smaller stair sets and mellow ramps leading up on either side of the upper platform area. This platform area is an ideal place for flat ground tricks. And the two long concrete boxes are the perfect obstacles for this spot. The long boxes have metal edges on one side and concrete edges on the other side so it’s a good place for riders to learn how to deal with either or. The shortness of these boxes makes them really useable and a good place for riders to sharpen their skills.
Shred it Later – Pin it Now
The big bowl at the Commerce City skatepark has a cool shape with a really unique sun-roofed cradle. The bowl is fully lined in coping and has a mellow change in depth on the floor.
The rain really started to come down right after I took pictures of this skatepark so I didn’t get any time to skate here. I definitely think I would have enjoyed this part of skatepark the most. The bowl seems to have some great transitions and a decent flow! And I do enjoy the rush of longboarding a cradle.

This skatepark in Commerce City has great features for street skaters. The open plaza layout makes for a pretty chill paced skatepark that’s a good place to practice street tricks. The cement park also provides an advanced vert bowl for more experienced athletes, so there’s a little bit for everyone to check out here!
