Riders Thoughts: Provident Skatepark in Visalia
Provident Skatepark in Visalia is a great skatepark for any street style skater or any one who can ollie over boxes and other features. As soon as you walk into the skatepark you are greeted by a large pyramid box with a number of different sized and shaped ramps. The ramps and quarter pipes on either side of the skatepark are lined up perfectly to launch riders over this box.
This skatepark is good for everyone, from beginners to pros because there is such a wide variety of obstacle sizes, shapes, and angles. Having all of these different features is great for strengthening any skaters skills. For instance, it’s easy to start on small obstacles and gradually increase to the larger ones as you become more comfortable.
As riders make their way around Provident Skatepark they’ll notice a number of different boxes, ledges, and rails located around the park – another example of why this park is so good for street skaters.
The middle section of the skatepark in Visalia has a ton of flow and a variety of banked turns and ramps. I enjoyed longboarding in this section of the skatepark the most because of the flow and the ability to carry my speed and momentum up and back down the obstacles and ramps.
Shred it Later – Pin it Now
Some of these transitions were kind of sharp causing my longboard to bottom out. But that didn’t really mess up the flow of the park. Around this area of the skatepark you’ll notice a number of arrows painted on the surface of the park. Not really sure why these were here, but maybe they help some people.
In the middle of Provident Skatepark there is a unique shaped obstacle. It looks kind of like two volcanos cemented together. This is cool obstacle, but I think if they would have rounded the corners it would be a much smoother addition that would easily add to the flow of the park.
The final section of Provident Skatepark in Visalia has a small bowl and snake run. This section of the skatepark definitely has some banked turns and some vert. But the transitions into this area are so steep and the turns are so tight that it is very difficult to skate.
The bowl is one of the smallest bowls I’ve ever seen. And there is a very abrupt gap in the bowl that links it to the rest of the snake bowl. It’s a challenging feature because the transition is so sudden and steep.
All that being said… I still had to skate it! Check it out in the video! You can see how steep my roll into the bowl is. It’s as close to dropping in as I’ve ever got and it was sketchy. So I had to break out the helmet to gain some confidence.
