Riders Thoughts:
The Sandstone Ranch Skatepark is large cement skatepark with many large features making it a pretty exciting spot. When you first enter the skatepark through the fence you notice how big and open the Wheels Park layout is. In the center of the skatepark sits a covered pavilion where you can put your stuff down or whatever. This area is at the bottom of the steps and sits between the flat street plaza area and the large vert bow.
From the entrance of the skatepark riders can take the ramp down, which leads to a very large, two level, center pyramid. The tall side of the pyramid features a curved ramp on one side and a flat ramp down the other. While the shorter side of the pyramid has flat ramps on either side. After continuing down the pyramid, the flow of the park leads riders up a very large quarter pipe on the other side.
The large quarter pipe on this side of the park is formed on the side of concrete hill feature that actually has a quite a few built in features. Riders can find curved and flat ramps here as well as a large box with metal edges, a gap with concrete ledges, and two different surface types.
The large bowl at the Sandstone Ranch Skatepark in Longmont has a unique layout and an amazing flow. This bowl has smooth transitions all over and features a variety of depths throughout the bowl. These different depths are created by both the floor going down and the ledges going up.
Shred it Later – Pin it Now
The unique shape of this bowl has a number of pockets and rounded corners that flow well no matter which direction you are going. In the middle of this bowl lies a raised quarter pipe spine with rounded humps on either side. These humps are great for pumping up and maintaining speed during runs.
The height of the vert walls and the large shape of this bowl makes for great cement surfing with the longboard. The features of this bowl are great for high speeds and the flow makes it easy to maintain that speed for a long time.
Wheels Park also features another simple pool bowl with a deep bean shape. We didn’t have much time before the lights went out so we didn’t get any pictures of that one, but you can see it in the video below!
Sandstone Ranch Skatepark in Longmont is a large fun skatepark that advanced riders will really enjoy. Novice riders will find some space to skate around but may be intimidated by most of the large features here. If you enjoy riding vert and bowls then you will be stoked to check it out!
