Sk8Way Skatepark in La Junta | Big Vert and Good Flow
Sk8Way Skatepark in La Junta, Colorado is a fun 16,700 square foot concrete skatepark. Designed by Site Design Group, this skatepark opened in 2004 but is still a great skatepark to check out. There are a number of street skating obstacles as well as some big vert and diverse bowls. First Impressions: Sk8Way Skatepark in La Junta
To reach the skatepark we had to walk through the grass which is no big deal but my shoes got all wet. The first thing that I noticed was the large, open main bowl which looked like a lot of fun.
Pros: Large walls, great transitions, big banked turns and large bowls.
Cons: Very minimal lighting at night

Know Before You Go: The skatepark is located in La Junta City Park. Here you’ll find basketball, tennis, playground, walking paths, and open grassy areas.
Riders Thoughts:
Sk8Way Skatepark in La Junta, Colorado is a large skatepark with good flow in the bowls and vert sections and a runway of street obstacles and features.
Skaters will find a good variety of street obstacles around the perimeter of Sk8Way Skatepark. The flat platform area around the skatepark is home to a number of boxes as well as a variety of ramps and ledges. The main street area has a few ramps with a center pyramid ramp/box.
The main section of the skatepark in La Junta is a large and deep bowl. This main bowl has a variety of transitions, walls, ramps, and banked turns. The layout of this skatepark provides a lot of space and plenty of flow in all directions. The size of the walls and banked turns make it very easy for riders to quickly gain and maintain speed throughout the entire skatepark.
Riders will find a rounded hump and opening in one corner of the large main bowl area. This is the entrance to a clover shaped bowl with a three different pockets. Experienced vert riders will really enjoy this part of the skatepark. The steep walls and the changes in elevation of the park floor make this a fun bowl to skate.

It’s great that this deep clover bowl is connected to the rest of the skatepark because riders don’t need to drop down a 6 foot wall to experience skating this deep vert area. There is a rounded hump that helps separate this section from the rest of the skatepark and also aids riders with building speed while entering this area without having to drop in from the coping.
Sk8Way Skatepark in La Junta, Colorado is a great skatepark for riders of any skill level. Beginners will be able to try some new features and have fun skating around. And experienced riders will take this skatepark to its full potential. Overall, the large walls, roll ins, banked turns and smooth transitions make this a great place for longboarding in a a skatepark

What condition was the park in? Like was there a lot of holes and cracks like the Trinidad park?

Hey Kim! Most of the skatepark is in pretty good shape but there’s definitely some cracks and rough cement in the vert bowl. But I thought both La Junta and Trinidad were a lot of fun!
