Skatepark in Billings Montana
The skatepark in Billings is a fun stop on an adventure through Montana. Billings welcomes visitors to the city with an awesome statue called “Head Over Heels.” Artist Tom Madden depicts a skateboarder mid hand-plant on the top of a vert ramp. It’s a very fitting statue and sets a great atmosphere to the Billings Skatepark. The skatepark is a large park with smooth pavement, bowls, and street obstacles.
First Impressions of Billings Skatepark:
Billings Skatepark is a pretty big skatepark with most of the street obstacles on one side of the park and the bowls on the other. The park has a number of ramps that guide the flow from the perimeter of the park to the bowls and banked turns. There’s also lots of good graffiti art in the bowls.
Pros:
There are a number of roll in options into the bowls, smooth pavement, and a good diversity of obstacles.
Cons:
Because the bowls are all on the same side of the park, there is not a great flow or opportunity to build up speed around the park.
Know Before You Go:
Plenty of parking and there are bathrooms.
Directions:
The Billings Skatepark can be found right on the corner of 27th St and 1st Ave. The large statue is easy to spot on the street. Click here to get directions to the Billings Skatepark
Riders Thoughts:
The Billings Skatepark is a pretty big skatepark situated in a large rectangle. When skating the perimeter of the park you will hit all of the street obstacles. The park has a good variety of obstacles including rails, boxes, ledges, stairs, and coping.
I’m usually on a longboard, so when I’m in the skatepark I don’t usually spend much time on street obstacles. On a longboard roll in’s or gradual transitions are important to my style of riding. Skating the perimeter of the Billings Skatepark is interrupted by a very steep ramp that I could not navigate with my longboard, so that was kind of a bummer for me.
One side of the skatepark in Billings, Montana is pretty open with a convergence of ramps and stairs towards the center. Coming down the ramps from this side a rider is able to build up some speed for the bowls and banked turns. The bowls in the skatepark are steep and have large walls, giving a rider opportunity to pump and build up speed pretty well.

But, because all three of the bowls are on the same side of the skatepark, the flow kind of dies as you go towards the other end of the park. Or you may find yourself repeating small circles in the bowl. Two of the bowls are separated by a spine, and if a rider had the skills to transfer over the spine then there would be many more lines to skate.
Overall, the skatepark in Billings Montana is a fun park with potential. But it’s not designed with a longboard in mind. My style of riding didn’t really flow well, therefore, it’s not one of my favorites. As for atmospheres, this park was a good environment. The statue itself is a statement and the graffiti art inside the bowls makes the park feel urban.
