SLO Skate Park

San Luis Obispo is an amazing place – the weather is practically perfect, the area is beautiful with gorgeous beaches nearby and it has the SLO Skate Park! The SLO Skate Park is a great place to spend the day shredding.

The SLO Skate Park is located at 1050 Oak St, San Luis Obispo, CA. I’ve been to a lot of skate parks, and this is one of my favorites! This is a big park that has a great flow and a ton of obstacles. The park is free and is open from 7am to 10pm.

It is on the central coast of California so most days are nice and sunny, but the park has some great lighting for night riding as well. The lights shut off at 10pm. The sign also says helmets and pads required, and no bikes allowed.

There is smooth pavement throughout the park, and a flat concrete area next to the park. The SLO Skate Park has a large street section with plenty of boxes, ramps, rails, stairs, and walls. The street section flows well because it has a slight downhill to a quarter pipe to keep up your momentum on the way back.

The park has a total of 3.5 bowls. The main bowl is a very large snake bowl with an awesome concrete wave. It flows great and has a variety of drop in or roll in spots. The bowl has a nice little half pipe area great for learning to drop in and it also links well with the rest of the park.

The smaller bowl, or the 1/2, is shallow with roll in spots and is great for the smaller kids still learning. This bowl is right next to another small-ish bowl. It has a shallow side and a deep side. The deep side has a big rock protruding out of the bowl. This bowl gets to about 10 ft deep and is pretty tight, so you really go fast in this bowl.

The last bowl is huge, it’s probably about 12ft deep and 12ft by 20ft wide. This bowl has one spot to roll in, but mostly places to drop in. For the more experienced bowl rider, this bowl has some great opportunity to get big air.

The atmosphere of the park is great. Some days it gets pretty packed but everyone gets along well even though with that many people sometimes collisions happens. The flow of the park really helps with the traffic. The park also has a basketball area that is used for roller hockey and roller derby matches, too! There are drinking fountains, baseball fields, a playground, and plenty of parking. I like to ride this park on my ripstick- it is great for rolling into and linking bowls!
