With the amount of public land in Nevada, there are several options for finding dispersed camping near Alamo but we think we hit the jackpot. After passing Pahranagat Wildlife Refuge, we finally reached the little town of Alamo where we then turned west onto some dirt roads in search of adventure. As we neared the mountains in the distance, we realized that they were massive heaps of boulders beckoning us to come closer. What We Love About Gold Butte National Monument
Gold Butte National Monument is one big pocket of adventure where you can spend days exploring the beautiful desert landscapes and discovering neat features. This 300,000 acre gem was designated a national monument back in 2016, protecting the vast, rugged environment and its interesting history. Encounter joshua trees, a great variety of cacti, canyons all to yourself, rock scrambling and incredible petroglyphs. And enjoy the endless opportunity for discovery and solitude in this vast, colorful desert terrain.

Hiking Sand Lake Trail is a great opportunity to check out several little lakes in the Flat Tops Wilderness. This hike is relatively short, mellow and accessible making it a good little day hike. This lightly trafficked hike leads through the trees reaching four pretty little Colorado lakes.
