Backpacking Grouse Ridge Loop was our first backpacking trip of the year, our first time backpacking in Tahoe National Forest and our first opportunity to backpack with Shane's brother who flew out to visit from Florida. And since you can't go wrong with loop itineraries with lots of lakes, we were excited to head out to experience a new area and make new memories. The backpacking Grouse Ridge loop itinerary that we decided upon links several different trails in the Grouse Ridge area. These trails lead past lake after lake with numerous opportunities for quick side trips to visit even more lakes!

Before we unveil our list of the best hikes in Lassen Volcanic National Park I must say that this entire area is INCREDIBLE! Each trail feels like it's full of surprises - not only is the scenery gorgeous but the active volcanism in the area puts on a fascinating display of beautiful and interesting sights, sounds and features. These unique features are so intriguing that we felt childlike with excitement each time we set off on another trail.

Surprise Lake Trail Backpacking to Four Beautiful Lakes
Surprise Lake Trail access numerous different lakes in the Eagles Nest Wilderness. Instead of a long day hike, backpacking Surprise Lake Trail seemed like the most enjoyable way to see Surprise Lake, Cat Lake, Upper Cataract Lake and Mirror Lake. And it gave us the opportunity to squeeze in one more backpacking trip before the weather directed us to lower elevations!

Backpacking Fall Creek Trail and exploring the Seven Sisters Lakes and Tuhare Lakes is an adventure we would highly recommend! The entire trail is incredibly scenic and the lakes are literally some of the more magical and dramatic we've seen. There are numerous opportunities for side adventures that can be added on and accessed from Fall Creek Trail as well.

Backpacking Missouri Pass and Fancy Pass Loop is a trip full of incredible scenery, a perfect mix of gorgeous high elevation lakes and stunning vistas from the two passes. Even the stretches of trail in between these features are beautiful and wild. The fact that it is a true loop and the two trailheads are literally right next to each other made this backpacking trip even better! Follow us as we explore the passes, lakes and climb around :)

North Halfmoon Lakes + Mount Massive Amazing Backpacking Trip
If you're looking for an overnight adventure in the Leadville area we would definitely recommend backpacking to North Halfmoon Lakes with a summit of Mount Massive! Go during the week to experience solitude as you explore the three beautiful high elevation lakes that make up North Halfmoon Lakes. And after a gorgeous day of exploring the lakes, sleep lakeside and enjoy the stunning display of stars. Then enjoy a challenge as the marmots and pika keep you company on your way to the summit of Mount Massive. And the views from the top… worth every step.

Backpacking Peeler Lake Loop | Hoover Wilderness
For our finale in the eastern Sierras for the season, we decided on backpacking Peeler Lake Loop. Peeler Lake is in the Hoover Wilderness of the eastern Sierras near Bridgeport, California. This Hoover Wilderness borders the Yosemite National Park and the elevation ranges from between 7,000-12,000 feet. We've never had the chance to explore the Hoover Wilderness so we were excited see a whole new beautiful area of the always stunning Sierra Nevadas.

With so much to see in this area, the numerous trailheads to choose from and seemingly endless destinations to reach you really can't go wrong.
