Driving along Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway reveals stunning beauty from the floor of the gorge, towering limestone walls on either side. Along the way there are many opportunities to pull off and soak in the dramatic landscape as well as numerous roadside attractions ranging from waterfall view points to several mile hikes.

Gold Strike Hot Springs
One of the coolest adventures that we did on the outskirts of Vegas was the hike to Gold Strike Hot Springs. This hike is in Boulder City, about 45 minutes from the Strip. This hike had it all: beautiful scenery, boulder scrambling, ropes to repel down, hot springs, and a cold river!

Mud Caves!
Our favorite and most exciting hike in Anza Borrego State Park was exploring the Arroyo Tapiado Mud Caves! We parked near the information sign seen above and immediately started checking out all the branching side canyons off of the main wash. In these canyons we came upon lots of unique mud formations such as tunnels, arches, and varying sized caves. Some of the branched canyons got very narrow. And some of the arches were low enough to make you duck under.

Quartz Vein Wash is a fun turn out in Anza Borrego to explore. There are some steep and narrow canyon sections with fun obstacles. And we also had a cool encounter with wildlife!

Exploring the Anza Borrego Calcite Mine
Calcite Mine is a cool hike in Anza Borrego! To get to the mine there are numerous side canyons full of narrows, obstacles and opportunities for rock wall free climbing!

Hiking Hellhole Canyon
We had a blast hiking to Hellhole Canyon. The wash was both sandy and rocky as we got closer and closer to the towering red rock walls of the canyon!

Ashdown Gorge is an exciting adventure at the bottom of a beautiful gorge! There are steep rock walls on both sides as you criss cross the water back and forth. There are some awesome features to explore along the way!

Longboarding Coal Creek | Cedar City Path and Skatepark
Cedar City also has a nice paved path that runs the entire length of the city that passes several parks and leads to a skatepark so naturally, longboarding Coal Creek Trail was a must do.

Exploring Ding and Dang Canyons
Ding and Dang Canyon is an adventurous nine mile lollipop that enters one narrow canyon before exiting and following the next canyon back to the same turn off. We couldn't wait to see the geology, narrow slot sections and obstacles this trail had to offer!
