Just two miles into Colorado off I-70 there are several great options for free camping at McInnis Canyon National Conservation Area. And there's plenty to see and do in the area to make this a worthwhile stop. As far as camping goes, choose from a spot in one of the nice BLM campgrounds or choose one of the designated dispersed camp spots. And if you're set up for more adventure and rough roads, there are also camping options on the Colorado River.

Bill Williams Loop Road is a great area to find nice dispersed camping near Williams. Located just off of I-40 in Kaibab National Forest there are numerous spots to choose from and the road is in great condition. This makes a great place to relax in the forest with opportunities to check out several lakes in the area, explore the dirt roads or take a hike. The area is peaceful and you may even spot wildlife. Visit an old mining town, take a selfie with the local burros and experience a scenic section of Route 66 while taking advantage of free camping near Oatman! Or just enjoy the peace of the desert, good winter weather and the great surrounding desert scenery. Our favorite part about camping near Oatman had to be the occasional encounters with wild burros! And of course, walking the random roads and washes finding beautiful vistas and random desert stuff.

Free Camping Near Vicksburg, AZ | BLM Camping Quartzite
For some really peaceful, pretty and easy to access desert camping with great winter weather, we would definitely recommend camping near Vicksburg in Arizona. There is a large area of BLM land that is a bit off the I-10 corridor and less busy than other spots camping near Quartzite. Located about 30 miles from Quartzite, camping near Vicksburg is super accessible and surprisingly quiet. There are a number of level, well spaced out spots for rigs of any size. And there are some desert hills and mountains as well as some saguaros scattered about adding some excitement to the scenery.

Boondocking in the Dragoon Mountains | FR 687 Camping Near Tombstone
The Dragoon Mountains are located in Coronado National Forest just outside of Tombstone, Arizona. Once in the national forest, there are numerous dispersed camp spots on Forest Road 687 that are great for boondocking in the Dragoon Mountains! This area is beautiful, fun, accessible and admittedly a bit popular among recreationists. The golden grasslands and rugged rocky mountains make for an incredibly scenic backyard!

Camping at Indian Bread Rocks is such a treat! Tis the season to head south and follow the great weather. Some desert camping is more exciting than others but this is a spot that we were happy to stay at for two weeks. Indian Bread Rocks is a BLM area in the Dos Cabezas Mountain Wilderness with several dispersed camping spots, great desert scenery and rugged mountains of granite boulders to play on.

Easy Vast Desert Camping Near Safford | Tanque Road
There are a number of great options to choose from for dispersed camping near Safford. Choose from vast desert camping on Tanque Road and Hackle Road to dispersed or developed camping near Mount Graham in Coronado National Forest. Since winter was approaching at the time that we were looking for camping near Safford, we decided to stay at lower elevation and found a nice spot camping on Tanque Road. Free Camping Near the Sierra Buttes | Gold Lake Highway
After spending some time exploring the northern Gold Lake Highway in Plumas National Forest, we still had more to see and we weren't quite ready to leave the area. So that's when we headed to the southern section of Gold Lake Highway in Tahoe National Forest. And we were stoked to find that there were actually options for free camping near the Sierra Buttes. To find this spot, we actually asked some rangers about any dispersed camping in the area and they pointed us to this spot.
