Free Camping at Upper Pahranagat Lake | National Wildlife Refuge
About an hour north of Las Vegas is a surprising opportunity for some beautiful lakeside camping at Upper Pahranagat Lake. All fifteen of the designated camp spots are along the lake shore with really nice lake views. Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge also has many great day use amenities and outdoor recreation opportunities. Learn about the area at the visitor center, use the helpful viewing scopes to take advantage of the abundance of bird species in the area, and hike a few of the many beautiful trails!

Free Camping Near Walden Reservoir | Gateway to Wilderness
Dispersed camping near Walden Reservoir is a nice destination in itself as well as a great location for accessing the incredible surrounding wilderness areas. This BLM land has a number of dispersed camping options including several shore side spots with nice scenic views of the mountains in the distance. Here you'll also find a surprising diversity of birds frequenting the reservoir and likely a few too many mosquitoes. Whether as the destination, a home base or a resupply point, Walden is a nice little town with all of the necessities.

Hiking Sand Lake Trail in Flat Tops Wilderness | Pretty and Peaceful
Hiking Sand Lake Trail is a great opportunity to check out several little lakes in the Flat Tops Wilderness. This hike is relatively short, mellow and accessible making it a good little day hike. This lightly trafficked hike leads through the trees reaching four pretty little Colorado lakes. And the trailhead is located near Sheriffs Reservoir so as a bonus, you get to check out the scenic reservoir in addition to the other lakes on the trail. Check it out!

With so many trails to choose from in the Flat Tops Wilderness, we finally decided on hiking Devil's Causeway Mosquito Lake Loop. Devil's Causeway is an exciting narrow rocky section of the trail that can get play with your vertigo. We were excited to check it out for ourselves. But hiking Devil's Causeway Mosquito Lake Loop also allows for the change to encounter stunning vistas and great views of the Chinese Wall formation as well as experience hiking through tundra and seeing several lakes. Hiking to Big Bear Lake from Round Lake Trailhead is a short hike to a refreshing, scenic lake making it the perfect choice for a hot summer day! There are numerous clean, clear and beautiful lakes to choose from in the Lakes Basin Area of Gold Lake Highway. And Round Lake Trailhead leads to several gorgeous lakes in the area including Big Bear Lake, Little Bear Lake, Round Lake, Silver Lake and Long Lake for starters.

Hiking to Whitney Lake | Holy Cross Wilderness
Whitney Lake is a relatively short hike to a pretty and peaceful tree-lined lake. But be warned, it may be short but it is also steep almost the entire way! Makes for a quick descent. Hiking to Whitney Lake seems like a super worthwhile destination for fishing - we saw a lot of good sized fish and a fisherman having luck while we were there.

Beautiful Hike on Pitkin Lake Trail | Vail Hiking
Pitkin Lake Trail is a great choice for hiking near Vail. The trailhead for Pitkin Lake Trail is in East Vail, just off of Interstate 70. The trail is a continuous climb through mixed forests with some intermittent open valley views that expose some of the towering peaks nearby. The trailhead is super accessible, location convenient and Pitkin Lake is a beautiful alpine lake destination!

Watson Lake Hiking – Flume and Watson Dam Trailhead
Not only can you hike and circumnavigate Watson Lake on Watson Lake Loop Trail but you can explore even more of these incredible Joshua Tree-esque rocks from the Flume and Watson Lake Trailhead! Find a waterfall on Watson Dam Trail, stair step your way up Flume Canyon Trail to find impressive views of Watson Lake below. Get off trail, climb around, take side adventures, find water holes and explore as you reach other little trails such as Secret Cove.

Ridge Lakes and Sulphur Works in Lassen NP
At Lassen Volcanic National Park, the unique features and dramatic scenery are the results of the areas volcanic activity, both past and present. Sulphur Works is one such example in the park where evidence of the underground hydrothermal system rises through the cracks and displays its presence. In the same parking area as Sulphur Works is the trailhead for the very beautiful Ridge Lakes. One is a roadside attraction and one is a mere two mile hike roundtrip but both are worthwhile destinations!

Camping Near Lolo Montana
From Missoula we headed into the Lolo National Forest to find dispersed camping near Lolo. A few forest roads later we found a great place to boondock! Our new home was situated in a beautiful forested valley right next to South Fork Lolo Creek and a wide open meadow. This spot ended up being very peaceful, quiet and tranquil.
