Trail Winds Skatepark in Thornton | Good Variety of the Classics
Trail Winds Skatepark in Thornton, Colorado is a 14,000 sq. ft. cement skatepark with a well thought out layout and great diversity of skating features. The skatepark was opened in 2012 and was designed by DHM Design and Team Pain Skateparks. The transitions and layout makes this skatepark in Thornton pretty good for riding a longboard in a skatepark. Read on to find out more about the obstacles and layout!

First Impressions: Trail Winds Skatepark
This medium sized skatepark has a great diversity of features for both street and vert skaters. It was empty when we arrived so we had the whole skatepark to ourselves!
Pros: Tons of street obstacles and a fun bowl with a roll in.

Riders Thoughts:
Trail Winds Skatepark in Thornton has a surprising diversity of skating features and obstacles. Both new and advanced riders will find that this layout provides plenty of opportunity to skate different kinds of obstacles.
The layout of this skatepark in Thornton is pretty open with a bunch of gradual depth changes. The open and flat perimeter is great for pop tricks and provides plenty of flat ground for cruising. There are many long mellow ramps which new riders may find useful for learning how to control momentum and to learn the feeling of going downhill. Plus the flow of the park is set up great for riders to always have a safe way to turn.
Riders can find small, medium, and large banked turns around the Trail Winds Skatepark. Some of these banked turns and smooth transitions are steep while some are mellow. Riders can use this variety of obstacles to gradually improve their abilities.
My favorite feature of the Trail Winds Skatepark in Thornton is the large bowl. The bowl has a very unique shape with several pockets and banked turns. The floor of the bowl is all the same depth but some of the walls are built up with cement boxes. These make the walls in the bowl seem much deeper in some spots.
Plus this bowl has a smooth roll in feature that makes it easy to take the longboard in the bowl!
Shred it Later – Pin it Now
The skatepark has a good flow to it and it’s easy for riders to transition from the street side to the bowl side. Riders can easily build up speed along the perimeter or the mellow ramps and banked turns then carry that speed into the bowl to get high on the walls and in the pockets.
Scattered around the Trail Winds Skatepark riders will find a number of street obstacles such as boxes, rails, ramps, quarter pipes and even some stairs. Most of the ledges here are lined in metal or coping but there are also a number of concrete ledges.
Trail Winds Skatepark in Thornton will be a good time for new and experienced skaters. The obstacles are very mild but they can flow together to make some epic lines. Overall riders can easily spend hours at this park having a good time and trying new tricks and obstacles.
