Riders Thoughts: Trails Skatepark in Centennial
Trails Skatepark in Centennial is a really fun skatepark with a really unique layout. The skatepark is broken up into a few different sections with grass and trees between the different sections. This separation is kind of cool because it provides some space between the different street features and the bowls or vert sections.
Touring the Vert Section
It’s no surprise, my favorite section of Trails Skatepark is the vert section. This is pretty much the first thing you see once you get over the bridge. I really enjoyed riding my longboard in this section of the skatepark because there are smooth transitions and roll ins on every bowl. Here you’ll find three bowls: a small round bowl, a medium bean/clover bowl, and a large long bowl.
The small bowl is a circular bowl with smooth rounded edges all the way around. This bowl is really smooth and really flowy. This is a fun feature. The shape of this bowl makes it easy to incorporate into a run from any direction. And the smooth transitions aid riders in the ability to pump their momentum and gain speed.
The medium sized bowl is pretty unique. It’s almost like an “8” but has a sharp corner and hip on one side. I found this bowl to be a lot of fun on the longboard because there is a gap in the coping that leads to a steep roll in. This is a fast and fun way to enter the bowl. Plus the speed helps to get high on the walls and up to the coping.
The roll in on this particular bowl reminds me of the roll into the clover bowl at the Bushmaster Skatepark in Flagstaff.
The last and largest bowl in the skatepark in Centennial is a wide and very long bowl. It has a shallow end and a deep end. The bowl is mostly lined in coping with the exception of one area where the large flat mellow ramp leads down. This is a great bowl for inexperienced riders to try some vert and some transition riding.
The length and width of this bowl also make it a good half pipe for street riders. And the diverse size of walls in this bowl make it a good place to work on dropping in.
Street Features of Trails Skatepark in Centennial
The street section of Trails Skatepark in Centennial provides riders with a top notch street skating environment. The layout of this section has a very back and forth flow with various features to choose from on both sides and in the middle. I found the rounded hump to be like pump track hump which is great for building up speed.
Riders will find multiple stair sets of varied lengths, widths, and heights. This area of the skatepark has tons of different transition types and obstacles. This makes it a really fun place to skate. You can experience and play on all sorts of different ramps and features. Having this many different features in a skatepark can diversify your abilities and can prepare you for all sorts of features that you will encounter at other skateparks.
Riders will also find a bunch of rails in this section and in the other street corridor. The other corridor has mellow ramps on either end with short rails, tall rails, flat rails, angled rails as well as a long cement box and a number of ledges.
Shred it Later – Pin it Now
One thing I noticed about Trails Skatepark in Centennial is that the designers seemed to really put a lot of effort into utilizing all of the space. The designers did this by including as many skate features as possible all over and in every corner of the park. This large box, for example, is in one corner of the skatepark and provides riders with an elevated level as well as a the large box with both metal and cement ledges.
The builders also provided riders with a few different surfaces, such as the brick floor found at either end of the skatepark. I like how they used many large cement benches around the park that can be used for seating or for skating.
The final section of the Centennial Skatepark has a very versatile cement box with three different levels and ramps. This area also has some circle “craters” that are fun to play on. The only place I’ve ever seen this skatepark feature is at the downtown Denver Skatepark.
It would be easy for any skater to spend all day at the Trails Skatepark in Centennial, Colorado. The different sections are unique and filled with so many different skating obstacles. The skatepark has a number of unique features that are good for both beginners and experts alike. I would recommend this skatepark to anyone, no matter what type of wheels you rock!
