Unique Race Track Layout at the Needles Pump Track
While in Southern California we decided to hit up the good old Needles Skatepark. This time we found that it got some fresh paint, a new facelift, and to our surprise we found they added on a brand new concrete Needles Pump Track! The new pump track in Needles has a very unique layout that provides a great leg workout and looks like a race track. This pump track is fun and is a great place to learn how to ride a longboard on a pump track.
First Impressions of the Pump Track in Needles:
When I first saw the Needles Pump Track I thought, woah when did that get here!? This pump track looks like it’s made for racing. And it seems to have the longest straightaways I have ever seen on a pump track.
Pros: Great work out and great layout for head to head races.
Cons: Almost no turns

Know Before You Go: The Needles Pump Track is set to open Summer 2024. The pump track is at the same park as the Needles Skatepark, which is fun with both street and transition sections. You will also find a playground, dog park, ball fields, bathrooms, and shaded picnic areas in the park.
Riders Thoughts of The Needles Pump Track:
The Needles Pump Track is a unique pump track, unlike any others that I have seen. The track is cement, which makes it kind of like the pump track in San Diego, but has much more of a straight away layout. This unique layout looks like it was made for head-to-head racing. There are two sides separated by a solid double yellow line and turns that directs riders away from each other to complete a lap.
The long straight aways provide riders with up to 13 humps/rollers in a row which feels like a very repetitive work out. But if riders really push they can use this layout to build up a lot of speed. The ability to go this fast is fun in this sort of head-to-head environment because races can be very close and intense.
The Needles Pump Track features banked turns on either side of the track. This directs the traffic in the direction of the loops. The platforms above these turns is where riders will begin a run on the track. The hills down from this platform have very smooth transitions that help start your run with a good amount of speed. The smooth transitions along the top of these banked turns makes a fun place to roll in from any angle.
…but these banked turns are the ONLY banked turns in entire pump track, which is not what I’m used to. I’m used to longboarding pump tracks like the pump track in Corona that twist and turn and have a much more surfy/flowy feel to them. I think I personally prefer the windy flowy pump tracks. But the head-to-head race aspect of this pump track is really cool and will prove to be a lot of fun in its own way.
Shred it Later – Pin it Now
There are a few other “almost banked turns” on the Needles Pump Track. They are pretty much not useable as turns because the track itself keeps going straight..
Pump Tracks are becoming more and more popular everyday (hopefully because people are seeing our travels and our YouTube channel! @lostcoastlongboarding lol). And I enjoy seeing how different companies are making different types of pump tracks. This is the first head-to-head layout pump track I have ever seen. I think it’s a fun idea that will add a fun competitive side to the sport of pump tracks! I enjoyed riding my longboard here and I think I would enjoy a race here too!
