Vail Skatepark | Unique Layout at Zeke M. Pierce Skatepark

The Vail Skatepark is called the Zeke M. Pierce Skatepark and this skatepark is very unique in the fact that it is located in the middle of the parking garages. This skatepark is a actually a very cool use of space by the city of Vail, why not put a cement skatepark in the middle of a cement parking lot?! The unique layout of the Vail Skatepark is a long and skinny cement skating area inside a narrow high walled courtyard.

Riders Thoughts:

The Vail Skatepark is a cool skatepark with a very unique vibe and atmosphere. As we arrived in search of the Vail Skatepark, from the road we turned into the parking lot and parked. We were on the top level of the parking garage so we walked over to the edge, looked down, and to our surprise we found the skatepark!

The unique layout and setting of the Vail Skatepark makes for a long and narrow skating area. This area provides riders with a number of boxes and ledges along with a bunch of rails. There is an obvious flow and direction made by the direction of ramps, stair sets, and rails.

The obstacles and ramps in the Vail Skatepark make for an ideal street skating atmosphere. There are many good sized features that link together really well to make for some solid runs. As an artist I cannot help but notice the artwork here. The size of the art makes a statement and the color really adds to the aesthetic of the skatepark.

The narrow layout of this park is not ideal for longboarding in a skatepark, but I had my longboard so I had to give it a shot. The flow of the skatepark goes downhill from one end to the other where it leads to the only banked turn in the park. The smooth transitions make for a fun turn and a small cement wave.

The large artwork and the tall narrow walls make the Vail Skatepark feel like skating in an urban canyon. Because of the walls, being inside the Zeke M. Peirce Skatepark feels like a mix between being in an indoor and an outdoor skatepark.

Around the Zeke M. Pierce Skatepark in Vail, riders will find a few different sets of stairs, that gradually get larger. There are plenty of boxes and ledges around the park, as well as some gaps.

From the stairwell in the parking garage the main area of the skatepark is to one side, and on the other side of the stairwell is another small section of skatepark. Inside this small section is one stand alone bowl. The square(ish) bowl is fully lined in metal coping and gets about 4 feet deep with rounded corners.

This skatepark is pretty small and narrow compared to most skateparks we have been to. It seems like it could feel crowded if there were a few people skating at once, but it didn’t seem to get busy at all while we where here.
